You are not the same person today as you were 10 years ago. As you age, you’ve grown to learn how to be self-confident and know how it feels not to have it.

What would you have changed then with what you know now? Every stage in life brings its challenges, and as soon as you think you’ve worked on one, others crop up.

Self-confidence is one of the many things that is a work in progress as you age. As you grow and conquer the world, what might have worked then would probably not now. How about we try these few things and see what they do to your confidence.

1) Take Care of Your Body

It is not only about taking enough water every day to keep your body hydrated. Exercising, eating right, checking on your mental health are essential components to keep you healthy. Take care of your overall health and give your body a boost.

2) Learn to say No

A lot is asked and expected of you as you age. Learn to say no and stick to it. Own your experiences and lessons learned in life. Don’t feel guilty turning down something or someone that you are not confident with working together.

3) Determine Your Values

What are your values? Are you living according to them or swayed by what is going on around you? Stick to what you stand for and be confident enough to let it be known. This will help you accept or decline different positions or roles offered to you by the surrounding society.

4) Stop Perfectionism

Perfectionism can be destructive and lead to mental issues like depression or anxiety. You cannot be perfect all the time. A perfectionist will want people around them to be the same, which is not the case. Be confident in yourself and unlearn the negative aspects of it.

5) Take Risks

You tend to avoid taking risks as you get older, but taking them can give you a confidence boost. Risk-taking is not only for the young it is also for the young at heart. Don’t look back and wonder how you did it then. Go on and do it now!

6) Check on the Negative Thoughts

Everyone has negative thoughts probably every single day. The question is, how far do you let yours disrupt you? Note the negative thoughts when they tend to start and find ways to disrupt the thought trail. Let your thoughts wander to something new and refreshing.

7) Seek help

If you feel that you can’t work on any of the above suggestions alone, please seek help. The seven steps will improve your Self-Confidence, and there is no harm in seeking professional help to get there.

Aging is a process that starts when we are still young, embrace and use it with confidence. Let the knowledge and wisdom gathered over the years be your driving force to confidence-filled twilight years.
